For those that can’t be merely satisfied with plain boring earphones, these will definitely stand out from the crowd. There’s no chance of blending in when you have a set of earphones that not only have LED lights that shine, but they blink to top it off.

These are just normal earphones, despite that they have lights, they’ll still work with any old MP3 player or iPod. They claim that they’re quite comfortable, but in all honesty, they don’t really appear to be all that comfortable. Sure, we loved the iPhone with its complete touchscreen interface, so you can imagine the excitement when a holographic interface finally comes out. Yes, I am fully aware that a holographic interface sounds too good to be true, and the Trou Hologram phone isn’t, at least, not yet.

I’m sure we all love the basic concept photo behind this, with the 3-D hologram of the car sitting on the screen. Just imagine how cool it will be when you turn your mobile around and can see the car at nearly every angle.

Still, holographic projectors have been known to eat up lots of power, so that is definitely one obstacle for the small projectors on the surface of the display. I’m sure there are many other things that prevent our science-fiction visions of a holographic future from becoming reality.

Panasonic Adds HiDef Audio to Video in the GH1

They’ve upped the ante to the next level with the Lumix GH1, which can not only shoot 1080p video, but it also adds Dolby digital audio to the mix, meaning photographers have a serious movie studio in their camera.

But unlike the 5d Mk II, which shoots at 21mega pixels, and costs $3,000 to boot, the Lumix GH1 incorporates a standard, and economical 12.1 mp. It shoots video in AVCHD at a cinematic 24 frames per second, or at what panasonic calls “smooth HD” at 60 frames per second with auto focus. Changing to video is also one button easy as pressing the Motion Picture button instantly moves to video recording. Creative Movie mode allows for manual settings, or iA mode which gives users the point and shoot capability they are used to. And iA mode also provides facial recognition to keep subjects in proper focus and in the right light.

And what’ s great is that the camera has not one, but TWO CPUs which enables the HD Video and Dolby Audio to process far faster on the fly. It also means recording in AVCHD for as long as the camera has storage capability.

Cost is about $1500, half the cost Canon’s 5D Mk II.

The Beanzawave was developed by Gama Microwave Technology in association with Heinz (yes, the ketchup company) which hopes to pair it with their new snack food line known as “Snap Pots.” The current prototype also gives the option of powering it with lithium ion batteries making it completely portable for camping and outdoor sportsman activities.

Cost is projected to be about $150.

The HP Pavilion dv6z Artist Edition notebook is likely to appeal to a great deal of students that are tired of the usual look of laptops. It has a 16-inch LCD and comes with a software suite including Video Studio X2, Corel Painter Sketchpad and Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo x2. Ever since that Amazon Kindle DX came out, news of e-book readers has been spreading like weeds. I already reported on iRex’s promise of a full-color ebook reader by 2010, and Jointech, a company that I had previously never heard of, has just unveiled the JE100.

The Jointech JE100 has a 7-inch screen that uses an LCD touchscreen in lieu of e-ink. It also has a 400MHz CPU, 128MB of flash memory, and 64 MB worth of RAM. The user can use Transflash cards for up to 4GB worth of extra storage.The JE100 will also have Mobipocket Reader, as well as support for eReader and MSReader. Rumor has it that it will also have video and audio playback, with the possibility of viewing Microsoft Office documents.

Other features include an integrated speaker plus audio output socket, and the battery life is about 3-6 hours from the 1,500mAh pack. It also features two USB ports: one is for hooking up extra peripherals, and the other for hooking the e-reader to a computer, presumably.

Samsung Pixon 12 appears to be raising the standard for cellular phone cameras with an LED flash, a wide-angle 28mm lens, and a whopping 12 Megapixels. I’m sure there are cellular phones with a higher number of Megapixels, but most consumer digital cameras don’t go that high.

The Pixon 12 can also record video at 30fps for a resolution of 720 x 480. Microsoft’s Project Natal

Nintendo Wii, your days could be numbered. Sure, you have been dominating the console gaming world with your motion-controlling Wiimotes, but are you ready for Project Natal?

Microsoft has recently revealed this full-body, motion-sensitive controller at E3 in Los Angeles, and it has understandably received a lot of attention. Project Natal is a TV-mounted camera/microphone that can sense motion, three-dimensional movement, even sound.

In other words, it is a controller without a controller, like the iPhone games that require nothing but movement. The company demonstrated this new technology with two new games. The first was Ricochet, a brick-blasting game that puts the player in the midst of Breakout, and Paint Party, a game that allows you to splatter paint with virtual brushes. Project Natal should be available on all versions of the Xbox 360 “soon”. Yeah, I know, I want it ASAP, but that was all the word that was given. No word on price, either. Expectations are high.

Logitech G940 Flight System

Logitech has just recently announced a new type of controller for flying games such as Flight Simulator and the like. As you can see, the G940 is designed to put the player in the cockpit as possible. After all, these controls were “inspired by commercial and military aircraft” and include a joystick, dual throttle, and rudder pedals.

The joystick has a two stage metal trigger, along with six programmable buttons. As for the dual-throttle, it has a split design for multiple engine aircraft with push button interlocks. With these two controllers working together, the user has the option of up to 250 possible programmable button combinations.The best thing or you can take it other way round also Logitech intends for pre-designed labels to slip inside buttons. For example, the landing gear button will have a specific place.

So, what have we learned here? A Logitech G940 Flight Controller plus a tri-fold screen equals one realistic flight gaming experience. If this is something that you want, you will have to wait until September to purchase the G940 for a price of $299.99.

For those of you enjoying the unibody MacBook or 15″ MacBook Pro that came out last year, Bookendz has finally released a docking station just for your Mac laptop. The dock station would allow for you to have a permanent set up of USB devices on your desk. Instead of unplugging 15 things when you need to take your laptop with you, just unplug the dock instead. Then you can leave all of the other devices the way you like them plugged in.

Granted, if you needed to take with you one of those devices it could easily be disconnected from the dock. So, here’s a breakdown of the Toshiba laptop ranges which should make it easier for you to identify the kind of laptop you’re looking for.

Equium
The Equium range offers laptops for everyday use around the house and out and about such as internet browsing and word processing.
Equium laptops are only available from PC World and Currys.
The U series come with small 13.3 inch screens and Vista Home Premium.
The A series come with a 15.4 inch screen but it is only the same resolution as the U series.
The P series machines have a larger chassis and screen at 17 inches and 1440×900.

Portégé
keeping portability in mind the Portégé range is designed. They are lightweight, starting at only 1kg, and extremely thin. Some models come with solid state storage which means there are less moving parts and therefore less heat and less power being consumed. This helps to increase battery life, extending the machine’s portability even further. They are also the most stylish of the Toshiba laptops, and I dare say they were influenced by Apple’s Macbook Air. Because some Portégés come with Solid State hard drives, just like the Macbook Air, there’s less chance of damaging your data should you accidentally drop the machine.

Qosmio

The Satellite series of laptops are mid-range machines, all equipped with either Intel or AMD Dual Core processors. For most every day, extended use, the Satellite range is perfectly suitable. The machines run Windows Vista Premium and come in a variety of sizes ranging from 13.3 inches to 17.1. As there are a wide variety of laptops in the Satellite range it is easy for you to pick which suits you best.

This YouTube video that you see here reminds me why I love the tech and gadget business. It shows what the world could look like in 2019, and it has been made better with technology.

As you can see, ten years has given us much progress including giant touch-screen displays for communication, tickets on e-paper that guide us to our next location, and completely interactive newspapers.

So who has provided us with this vision of the future? Would you believe Microsoft? This clip was given by Microsoft’s Business Division president Stephen Elop at the Wharton Business Technology Conference.

Even though this video uses a lot of special effects, you have to ask yourself if it paints a realistic depiction of where technology is headed. If you ask me, then I would say “yes”. Most of this technology demonstrated in the video clip is just an amplification of technologies that we already have now, such as the Surface and e-paper.

Let us all hope that ten years from now, the future will look like this. Then all those dreary science fiction writers will be wrong, and the future won’t be dystopian like 1984. Hopefully Microsoft will not be Big Brother.

Just before announcing that Internet Explorer 8 has been finalized, Microsoft has released a new report titled "Measuring Browser Performance: Understanding issues in benchmarking and performance analysis." The document explains the various browser and network components and how each piece can impact performance when benchmarking, capabilities and limitations of various benchmarking tools, as well as ways to design tests to avoid these issues. What makes this report extremely dubious is the chart that is buried at the bottom. It shows IE8 outperforming Firefox 3.05 and Chrome 1.0, something that no other test on the Internet has ever shown before.

the table which Microsoft provides shows the load times for the top 25 websites according to comScore, and one can clearly see dat IE8 does quite well. The report notes that Microsoft "used the browser ‘Done’ indicator for timing when the page when the page is completely loaded at that point. For pages which continue to load and change after the ‘one’ indication we have used common visual cues to generate the timings. Timing is started when the Go button is pressed. These timings were captured in January 2009 one thing imortant to know is that these timings may change bcz Internet content is always changing you may get different timings when you run these tests."

Their adapater will allow for you to plug any set of earbuds into your shuffle. It also makes it so that you can plug your shuffle into an aux input. All around making the new Shuffle a lot more usable than many of us had predicted it would be. Sadly there isn’t a ton of info on the adapter just yet, since it is such a new product. Whenever I’m in the Apple store, I can’t resist drooling over the Mac Mini. I already have a tiny PC that does basically the same thing as a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV, but it’s nowhere near as pretty as the Mac Mini. I know, it’s sad to admit that I want an electronic device mostly because of how it looks. However, let’s face it, I’m not the only Mac fan that way. A large part of the reason Apple products are such a pleasure to own, is because they have such a nice sleek look to them. The down side with Apple products is that they lack a decent range of colors.They all are white or gray with black accents. All around, nowhere near colorful, but we overlook it because we love the products too much. Those that can’t take anymore will usually resort to skins to spice up their laptops or iPods. Sadly though, there’s not much of a way to add color to the Mac Mini, that is until now. Computer Choppers is not offering to customize that bright white Mac Mini for you and give it a bit of color. The custom jobs start out at $199. They offer 16 different color choices and then 6 different patterns (including camouflage). It’s not something that would be cheap, but if you’re tired of bland colors and have some extra cash it’d be the way to go.

Technology and restaurants have combined at the Imano Restaurant in London, as every table is essentially a computer display. These tables are not like the Microsoft Surface, but they are just as good. As you can see, there are projectors above the tables to obtain the virtual display, and there is a circular touchpad to allow for navigation. From the moment a customer sits down, the user can then select their “placemat” like selecting a wallpaper for Windows. From there, the customer/user can look at the menu, which includes pictures of the appetizers, main courses, even drinks. Ordering is as simple as pointing and clicking, and a wait-person will deliver your meal to you. While the customer is waiting, he or she has the option of watching their meal prepared through a camera in the kitchen. The customer also has the option of playing a game with his or her dining partner.

In case you haven’t heard, the new iPod Shuffle is out. The boffin's at Apple have given the Shuffle a makeover, and it is both good and bad. The good news is that it now has 4GB worth of memory on it. It is also smaller, measuring just 1.8 inches tall and 0.7 inches wide. Another new feature is the VoiceOver, which will tell the user the name of the current track and also when it is time to recharge the battery. The VoiceOver feature allows the user to operate multiple playlists, as they can be navigated as the player announces their names.All the buttons have been taken off of it, and placed conveniently on the headphones. Even though Apple thought this was going to be the good news, many tech blogs everywhere have been criticizing this feature as extremely bad news. After all, the user cannot use just any earbuds anymore. It doesn’t look like there will be any newer models of these earbuds any time soon. When they do, it will probably be at exorbitant prices. Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has unveiled that its cube-shaped 3D display, “gCubik,” now comes with displays across all half dozen of its faces instead of half that amount as with its its predecessor. While the boffins at NICT have not bumped up the resolution to a high level, the whole point of this is to demonstrate the initial concept of “observing an 3D image from all sides, holding it in hand”.The gCubik is actually a cubic display that is based on Integral Photography (IP), a special kind of technology that allows viewing of 3D images with nothing but the naked eye. This new model measures roughly 10cm across each side. Just to get an idea of how different this is from other 3D displays that makes the 3D image look as though it was outside the display, the gCubik is able to generate a 3D image that looks as if it is inside the cube. Not only that, whenever the gCubik is turned when one wants to view the image from different sides, even the sides or the bottom of the image can be viewed as well, all referencing to the point from where the image is viewed.The original gCubik came with only three displays on an equal number of sides when it was launched last August, and this time round the display was reduced, where 3.5″ VGA (640 x 480 pixels) LCD panels were mounted on all six sides.
